Glorify God, Live Together, Make Disciples

Preparing for this Sunday at Emmaus

habakkuk 2

This Sunday morning we will begin our study in the Old Testament book of Habakkuk. The plan is to cover the context and situation of the book and then study the entire first chapter together. You will notice as you read this first chapter that Habakkuk is pretty straight forward, even brazen in his speech to God. It is this presumption that helps to frame the book and understand how we are to process and biblically handle our own questions. Living in a post-Genesis 3 world is hard. Habakkuk felt this. We feel this.

Here is the sermon outline:

Title: “The Presumptive Prophet”
Text: Habakkuk 1:1-2:1
Main Point: Just because things don’t make sense to us does not mean they don’t make sense to God.
Outline: 5 unhealthy presumptions that can echo in hurting hearts:
(1) “God does not care.”
(2) “This is not fair.”
(3) “God’s plans are thwarted by sin.”
(4) “Life is supposed to be easier for me because I follow God.”
(5) “God must answer to me.”

Here is the order of service (notice, we have shuffled the order a bit).
