Luke Gorsett

Luke grew up in Denver, CO and came to NE in 2005 to play baseball for the University of Nebraska. It was there he met his future wife Heather Gorsett who grew up in Omaha. Luke then went on to play baseball in the St. Louis Cardinals farm system. While playing for a team in Jupiter, FL he met another player who shared the gospel with him and invited him to a Bible preaching church. During that time God called both him and Heather to himself both being contrite over their sin, humbled by the grace of God, and trusting in Jesus Christ for salvation. As the baseball season was coming to a close they came back to Omaha for the 6 month off season. Their pastor and friends recommended Omaha Bible Church. It was then that Luke decided to retire from baseball, finish his B.A. at UNL (Communication Studies, minor in Greek) and continue to grow and serve in the local church. After serving as a member of OBC for 4 years he was asked by Emmaus Leadership to come and help with the church plant. From 2012-2015 he served on the pastoral staff team. In 2015, he stepped down from pastoring full time to pursue further training at Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. After graduating (MDiv), Luke began the residency at Emmaus to receive specific training in ecclesiology and pastoral ministry along with congregational affirmation of his gifts and calling. In the future, he hopes to plant a healthy vibrant church centered on the preaching of the Word, the gospel of Jesus Christ, and the mission of the church.
Luke’s desire in ministry is to see the local church better reflect the beauty and glory of Christ. He is committed to expository preaching, cultivating a culture of evangelism and discipleship and helping men and women understand and value the complementarity of their God-given roles.
Luke and Heather have been blessed with 4 children: Milly, Stella, Theodore and Hugo. They live a few blocks west of downtown Omaha.
