Weekly Liturgy

Walk in Wisdom

Purpose

Every week, Emmaus leadership creates a liturgy that reflects the truths and themes found in the sermon text. All of the songs, readings, and prayers are meant to thrust us into greater joy and love for God and His Word. Take some time this weekend to read, pray, and quiet your mind. Consider the following theme and scriptures, focus your heart on Christ, pray for your brothers and sisters, prepare for the Sunday morning gathering.

Theme

To walk in wisdom requires intentionality, knowledge, and the Spirit.

Call to Worship

1 My son, if you receive my words and treasure up my commandments with you,
2making your ear attentive to wisdom and inclining your heart to understanding;
3yes, if you call out for insight and raise your voice for understanding,
4if you seek it like silver and search for it as for hidden treasures,
5then you will understand the fear of the LORD and find the knowledge of God. (Pro 2:1-5 ESV)

Scripture Reading

13Who is wise and understanding among you? By his good conduct let him show his works in the meekness of wisdom.
14But if you have bitter jealousy and selfish ambition in your hearts, do not boast and be false to the truth.
15This is not the wisdom that comes down from above, but is earthly, unspiritual, demonic.
16For where jealousy and selfish ambition exist, there will be disorder and every vile practice.
17But the wisdom from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, open to reason, full of mercy and good fruits, impartial and sincere.
18And a harvest of righteousness is sown in peace by those who make peace. (Jam 3:13-18 ESV)

Sermon Text

15 Look carefully then how you walk, not as unwise but as wise, 16 making the best use of the time, because the days are evil. 17 Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the will of the Lord is. 18 And do not get drunk with wine, for that is debauchery, but be filled with the Spirit, 19 addressing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody to the Lord with your heart, 20 giving thanks always and for everything to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, 21 submitting to one another out of reverence for Christ. (Eph. 5:15-21)
